Synopsis

About the Seasons of Love series:

When Lady Sophie mistakes the powerful Duke for her would-be suitor at a Christmas house party and kisses him under the mistletoe, she’ll have to go along with a fake courtship to avoid ruin. But someone really ought to tell the Duke that stolen kisses are not part of the ruse...

Meanwhile, her bookish sister Sarah's snowed in with a rake at the inn, free-spirited Serena is intent on keeping a certain Earl from catching feelings, and sweet Samantha sets out to make a snowman—and finds true love instead.

"Don't look now, but the Duke has arrived," Sophie's sister murmured.

Sophie did not turn to stare at the notorious, powerful Duke. She was too busy gaping in horror at the man before her. The lord her aunt had just introduced, and the man with whom she had an arrangement to marry.

"But—" Sophie started. Her voice was high with panic. If this was the lord she was to marry, then...

Who had she just kissed beneath the mistletoe?!

"Oh dear!" Her sister leaned in closer. "The Duke is heading right for us."

Sophie's heart raced, dread rising. She turned slowly, and then—

Oh no. No, no, no.

The Duke's dark gaze met hers.

Sophie had kissed the Duke!

~*~Excerpt from A Snowstorm Serenade for Lady Sarah ~*~

When the bluestocking attempts to look beautiful for the ball to impress her brother's best friend . . . and so she leaves her spectacles behind.

"Sarah?"

"Yes?"

"Where are your spectacles?"

"Oh, uh...they're in the pocket of my gown in case I need to...you know..."

"See?" he offered.

"Precisely." She could feel her cheeks heating. She was rather hoping that for one night she could be someone else entirely-the sort of lady who didn't inspire a man to tease but rather swoon.

Well, maybe not swoon. That didn't seem very manly at all. But perhaps fall victim to her charms?

Yes, that would do nicely.

Sarah held on to his arm tightly as he wove her through a crowd, not stopping until the sound of voices was a distant murmur behind them.

"Jake?"

"Yes?"

"Where are we?"

"The dining room," he said.

"I see. And why are we here when the rest of the party is...there?" She cast a hand toward the voices in the other room and flinched as her hand hit a wall.

"Because I'd much prefer you could see my face when I ask for this next dance." His voice was so gentle it brought tears to her eyes. She was so emotional she couldn't bring herself to protest when he fished in her pockets and drew out her spectacles.

When they were once more situated on her nose, she found herself blinking up at the kindest, most affectionate gaze in all the world.

"Why would you not wear your spectacles?" A tender smile curved his lips and softened his features.

"Well, I-er-that is, you used to tease me about how I looked in them, and-"

With a groan he leaned down, cupping her face in his hands. "I was such an unforgivable fool."

She blinked. "Oh no, that's all right, you were only teasing and—"

"I was teasing because I found you attractive," he interrupted.

He never let go of her face and even without the full use of her eyes she couldn't miss the fact that he was sincere. "You did?"

"I do," he clarified. "Hair up, hair down, plain dresses, or fetching gowns such as this one, you have always been stunningly beautiful to me, Sarah."

"I-is that-oh." She'd been rendered senseless. Her, with her quick mind and sterling intellect, and...

She couldn't think of a single thing to say.

★★★★★ "My heart is complete mush right now from all of the sappy and exciting cuteness...there will likely be stars in my eyes the rest of the weekend."
